Vedas: Vedas have the highest place in Sanatan Dharma. Just as the Quran has a place for Islam, the Bible for Christians and the Zen Avesta of Parsi, our oldest scriptures, the Vedas, have an even more glorious place. In all the four Vedas, the art of living, values, values of life etc. are the virtues given by the Vedas.
What is Vedas?
If you want to live a right life then it is best to follow the Vedic path. ‘Veda’ is the embodiment of verbal Brahma, hence ‘Brahm’, another synonym of the word ‘Veda’, is famous in all the scriptures. The word ‘Veda’ is derived from these four roots – ‘Vid Sattayam’, ‘Vid Gyanae’, ‘Vid Vicharane’ and ‘Vidru Labhe’, which means – which always has power, which provides unique knowledge, which is eternal. A book which contains a dictionary of both worldly and worldly benefits is called ‘Veda’. But the true scholars who understand and explain the Vedas are very few today. Let us consider some instructive mantras of the Vedas-

Teachings from Rigveda –
Ekam sad vigra bahudha vadanti. (1.164.46)
Scholars call that one Lord by many names.
Eko Vishwasya Bhuvansya Raja॥ (6. 36. 4)
He is the sole master of all the worlds.
Yastanna Veda Kimricha Karishyati॥ (1.164.39)
One who does not know that Brahma, what will he do with the Vedas?
San Gachchhadhwam San Vadadhwam. (10.191.2)
Walk together and speak together.
Shuddhaḥ Poota Bhavat Yajniyas:॥ (10.18.2)
Be pure and holy and lead a charitable life.
Swasti panthamanu charem. (5.51.15)
May we be travelers on the path of welfare.
Devanam Sakhyamup Sedima Vayam. (1. 89.2)
Let us befriend the gods (scholars).
Up Sarp Mataram Bhoomim. (10.18.10)
Serve the motherland.
Bhadrambhadram kratumsmasu dhehi. (1.123.13)
Oh, Lord! Make us adopt good thoughts, knowledge and actions that bring happiness and prosperity.

Bhadram Karnebhi: Shrunuyam. (15. 21)
Let us listen to only kind and auspicious words with our ears.
S Otah Protascha Vibhu Prajasu. (32.8)
That all-pervasive Lord is present in all the subjects.
Ma Gridh: Kasya Svid Dhanam. (40.1)
Don’t be greedy for anyone’s money.
Friendly eye review. (36.18)
Let us all look at each other as friends.
Tamev Viditvati Mrityumeti॥ (31.18)
Man transcends death only by knowing that Brahma (Lord).
Ritasya patha ghost. (7.45)
Follow the path of truth.
Body and mind: Shivasankalpamastu. (34.1)
May my mind be filled with good intentions.
Teachings from Samveda –
Adhvare Satyadharmanam Kavin Agrim Up Stuhi. (32)
Praise Agni who propagates true religion in a violence-free yagya.
Richa Varenyam Avah Yami. (48)
I seek best protection from Veda mantras.
Mantrashrutyam charamsi॥ (176)
We do whatever is said in the Veda mantras.
Rishis Sapt Vani: Abhi Anushat. (577)
Say the seven-verse speech of the sages – say the Veda Mantra.
अमर्ताय अप्यायमानः दिवी उत्तमानी श्रवांसी धिष्व.(603)
To attain salvation, you should progress yourself and achieve good fame in the heavenly world.
Yagyasya Jyoti: Priyam Madhu Pavate. (1031)
The light of Yagya creates lovely and sweet feelings.
Teachings from Atharvaveda –
Tasya te bhaktivansaḥ syām. (6.79.3)
Oh, Lord! Let us be your devotees.
Ek eva namasyo vividyaḥ. (2.2.1)
Only one God is worthy of worship and praise among the people.
S no munchatvanhasah॥ (4.23.1)
May God free us from sin.
Ya it tad viduste amritatvamanshuh. (9.10.1)
Those who know that Brahma, attain salvation.
San Shruten Gamemahi॥ (1.1.4)
We should be equipped with the teachings of Vedas.
Yajno Vishwasya Bhuvansya Nabhi:॥ (9.10.14)
Yagya is the navel that binds the entire universe.
Brahmacharyan tapasya deva mrityumpakshat. (11.5.19)
Learned people have survived death only by the power of celibacy.
Madhumarti Vachamudeyam॥ (16.2.2)
Let me speak sweetly.
But there is no death. (18.3.62)
May death stay away from us and may we attain the state of immortality.
Sarvmev Shamstu Nah॥ (19.9.14)
May everything be beneficial for us.
In these mantras we find the essence of life. The work of explaining the importance of Yagya and the power of devotion has been done in the Vedas. Following the Vedas will guide us towards the right path which will help in transforming us from primitive humans to great humans.
